Summer Rugby Festival FAQ
1. IS THIS COMPETITION ONLY FOR FIRST TEAM PLAYERS OF THE FOLLOWING SEASON?
No, the festival will be open for other age categories. The High school category will have a strong focus on the first team squads but for both Rugby and Netball there will be opportunity for junior teams.
2. Is there a under 16 or under 15 competitions?
Yes, for both rugby and Netball there will be opportunities for junior teams to enter. Please go to the competition page for more info.
3. WILL SCHOOL BE REQUIRED TO TOUR WITH A SQUAD OF PLAYERS.
Yes, the ideal is that each school bring their top players which will be 2 teams each playing in the respective A and B squad teams for the tournament. Players will be allowed to move between teams and coaches can adjust their squads as they want to.
4. WILL THERE BE A COMPETITION ELEMENT IN THIS TOURNAMENT?
The strength vs strength principle will ensure competitive matches for all schools, with each team playing multiple fixtures across the various days. There will however not be an overall champion, trophies or medals awarded.
5. WILL THE COMPETITION RULES BE ADJUSTED TO THE TIME OF THE SEASON?
Yes, playing times of matches will be made shorter, squads bigger and rolling subs will be allowed which will give a trial element to this tournament.
6. HOW WILL THE STRENGTH VERSUS STRENGTH PRINCIPAL WORK?
Each school will be requested to submit performance criteria as part of the entry process. Based on criteria like existing school rankings, school size, existing tournaments and leagues that the school participates in, and school performance in 2024, schools will be matched against opponents in a similar category.
7. IS THE PRIMARY RUGBY SCHOOL COMPETITION ALSO FOR THE SENIOR SQUAD OF THE FOLLOWING YEAR?
Yes, schools will have the opportunity to also bring up to two full squads made up of their first-team group for the following season
8. WHERE WILL THE ACCOMMODATION BE FOR THE COACHES AND PLAYERS?
Schools are welcome to arrange their own accommodation but affordable accommodation will be offered to the schools at Hugenote High School in Wellington and Boland Landbou High School (14 km from the venue). This will allow schools to save costs and make the festival as affordable as possible. All accommodation information will be shared with the application process.
9. How will the 10s work and what categories will there be?
This is aimed at the older rugby players to add to the festive atmosphere. There will also be a category for the OLD Boys from the respective schools to play against each other to determine the OLD Boys Champion.
