The Six Gun Grill Summer Sport Festival is fast approaching, and the organisers are excited
to announce the inclusion of athletics to the festival schedule, which is sure to add to the
excitement and overall offering of this unique festival.

Legendary middle-distance runner, Johan Fourie, and PC Beneke, Head of Athletics at
Boland Landbou and former SA 400m hurdles runner, co-created the athletics format for the
festival with PC the man that will be driving the athletic experience at the inaugural event.
The focus of this event has always been to provide a platform for athletes to develop and
refine their preparations ahead of the following season. With a unique format tailored to
deliver exactly that, athletics at the Summer Sport Festival is sure to offer a unique
preparation environment for top athletes across the country.

“With schools being able to enter a team format or send individual athletes, this platform
offers an opportunity for all and is perfectly suited to the time of the season with regard to
athlete preparations,” Beneke says.

The athletics event will be open to both boys and girls, with two age categories, u/16 and
u/18’s of the 2025 season. Schools entering the team event will be able to enter 10 athletes
per gender group, with each athlete able to compete in up to 3 disciplines plus the relay
event. Individual athletes will also be allowed to enter for specific disciplines. The athletics
meet will be hosted on Saturday 7 December at Boland Landbou, who is the co-host venue
for the inaugural festival along with Huguenot High School.

“The Six Gun Grill Summer Sport festival is all about creating a fresh and new approach for
athletes to close their 2024 preparations. Saturday in the Boland, at the start of December,
will be an epic experience for any school athletes aiming to end their 2024 preparations on a
high,” Beneke said.
