GENERAL INFORMATION
We are thrilled to announce that Karate & Kobudo has been officially included in the 2025 Six Gun Grill Summer Sport Festival β the second-largest school sports festival in South Africa! This marks a historical milestone for martial arts in school sports.
All athletes must be currently enrolled primary or high school students to participate.
COMPETITION FORMAT
The event will be conducted in line with WUKF (World Union of Karate-Do Federations) competition rules. All divisions will be run using professional digital brackets and scoring systems via Kihapp and streamed live via Action Sport SA YouTube Channels.
DAY 1 β Friday, 5 December:
– Individual Kata (Forms) β All Ages & Belt Divisions
– Team Kata (3-person)
– Individual Kobudo (Weapons Kata β Bo, Nunchaku, etc.)
DAY 2 β Saturday, 6 December:
– Individual Kumite (Semi-contact sparring)
– Team Kumite
COMPETITION RULES OVERVIEW
– WUKF Rules apply: Protective equipment, scoring, and judging criteria will follow international standards.
– All competitors must compete in their official school sport uniform or club gi with appropriate belts.
– Divisions: Categories will be split by age, belt, and gender, and in some cases merged based on entries.
– Match durations:
– Kata: 1 round elimination or round-robin per pool
– Kumite: 1.5 β 2 minutes per bout depending on division
– Judging panels: Certified referees and judges will be allocated per ring.
– Team Kumite and Kata divisions must consist of students from the same school or dojo.

– Each dojo/school is responsible for submitting bulk entries and payments.
– Entry Deadline: Thursday, 31 October 2025 (No late entries will be accepted)
– T-shirt Sizes: Must be submitted per athlete during registration to secure the correct sponsored T-shirt.
TECHNICAL & LOGISTICAL INFO
VENUE SETUP
– 3 competition floors (tatamis) inside Huguenot High School Hall.
– Spectators welcome; seating arranged around tatamis.
LIVE STREAMING
– All matches broadcast live via Action Sport SA YouTube Channels (Floor 1, Floor 2, Floor 3).
– Commentary and professional graphics included.
OFFICIATING & VOLUNTEERS
– Qualified referees and judges officiate under WUKF rules.
– Dojos encouraged to nominate table officials and marshals.
EQUIPMENT
– Mandatory protective gear for Kumite: WUKF-approved mitts, mouthguard, chest guard (girls), shin/instep guards, and headgear.
– Kobudo weapons must comply with safety standards.
– Competitors must wear clean, tidy gis and belts of appropriate rank.
CODE OF CONDUCT
We uphold the values of respect, discipline, and integrity. All athletes, coaches, parents, and spectators are expected to:
– Show respect to officials and opponents.
– Avoid unsportsmanlike conduct.
– Encourage participation and positive support.
