NETBALL ADDED TO THE DECEMBER MATCH SCHEDULE.

The organisers of the Six Gun Grill Summer Sport Festival have officially decided to include netball in the festival offering. Given that most schools start training with their senior netball squads in the final quarter of the year, these scheduled games on an end-of-year tour will provide their coaches and selectors with an excellent opportunity to watch their players in a genuine competitive setting.
“We had a few schools reach out to us about the possibility of adding netball to the festival schedule, allowing both boys and girls the opportunity to end the school year with an early pre-season tour. It makes sense for the schools driving down to the festival to have their netball and rugby teams on the same bus,” Duitser Bosman, festival organiser, stated about this new addition.
The title sponsor of this competition, Six Gun Grill, supported the addition of netball to the festival offering. Netball is one of the strongest and most prominent women’s sports in South Africa, especially at school level, and is a great complement to the rugby offering. At this stage, participation will be limited to three age groups:
- Primary School Senior Squads of 2025,
- High School Senior Squads of 2025 and
- Under 16 squads in 2025.
Ideally, each school will be requested to bring 20 girls per squad, with each school having two different teams enrolled in the competition.
“We believe this will add to the festivities and the summer feel. Netball is such a beautiful sport and allows us to add many teams to participate in the festival with just a few courts.” Pieter Rossouw, the founder of the Summer Rugby Festival, stated.
“I have experienced many school netball festivals where the girls play so many matches that it is difficult to achieve a real tour experience. We will aim to find the balance between playing netball and also having a good time on tour, making this a festival to look forward to each year. Matches will likely take place across four days, which will include a rest day for girls,” Bosman added.
More details about the netball offering will be released before the 1st of June. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and Website for the latest updates and news.
